The Right Ears to Hear

“When Zarathustra had spoken these words, he again looked at the people, and was silent. "There they stand," said he to his heart; "there they laugh: they do not understand me; I am not the mouth for these ears.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

I tried to share my version of Mormonism with ex-mormons on forums in the past and found that many of them (no not all of them) are often really negative people and have just tried to insult me and be negative. I made it clear to them that I'm not trying to convert them to Orthodox Mormonism. I tried to explain that my version of Mormonism is not orthodox and that it is an alternative point of view. It didn't matter; if I would not join them in their neverending deconstruction and hatred toward all things Mormon, I was not welcome in their "gang." So many anti-mormons (no not all) are so negative and cynical and mean-spirited on forums that it is difficult to reason with the loudest voices (who set the cultural tone on these forums) because they tend to be immature, cluster B type personalities, who are un-reason-able; who only know feeling right (egotism) and hate and insults and name calling, just like the schoolyard bully in middle school. Meanwhile, the moderators and mob on these forums will often censor you for standing up against these cyber bullies. It is a very toxic environment which I do not recommend unless you intend to join their "gang."

Note that I am not referring to all exmormon forums (only a couple I have visited) and every exmormon is different. For example, there are many exmormons who become Christians (or are nonreligious yet have a moral conscience) and do not approve of the toxic atmosphere on many exmormon forums. I also know that there are many who like me are not happy with the cultural atmosphere on these exmormon forums. But unfortunately, the loudest most frequent voices reign in these spaces and those who disapprove can't control it and often get sucked into it or they have to accept it.
